After four years of competition in NCFCA, Joseph has continued to take on speech and debate in stride. Hailing from Alabama, he has somehow convinced the Ethos staff to let him bug them for yet another competition season.
He began debating during illegal immigration year and has since enjoyed all facets of speech and debate. Coincidentally, he is proud that his first brief was 21 pages long, which happens to be longer than both Peter or Lydia’s first briefs. ; )
Since then, Joseph has continuously competed in team policy debate, along with six different individual events categories, earning regional and national recognition in the majority of events he competed in. He is currently the leader of the Homeschool Debate Research Club, a nationwide group of debaters who interact in a virtual environment to better research skills, discuss round strategy and foster deeper understanding of resolutional topics.
He also serves as the student coach of the Catalyst team policy debate and extemporaneous clubs in Montgomery, Alabama, helping to bring on others that share his passion for research, public speaking, and debate. He has qualified to nationals in both of these events, which he considers to be his favorites.
Unfortunately, parental authority has prohibited Joseph from spending all his time on debate, as he has been forced to study other subjects that will help him later on in life. These include, but aren’t limited to Latin, algebra, geometry, english, and history. He is interested in studying government or pre-law in college, so he can continually feed the monster in his brain that is forcing him to research.
