Kawika began debating in 1999 and just won’t seem to stop competing in some form of forensics.
He competed in NCFCA earning numerous top awards, including breaking into the outrounds at the 2002, 2003, and 2004 National Tournament; he won Combined Sweepstakes Champion at the 2003 National Tournament; 8th Place debate team at the 2004 National Tournament; Kawika won numerous awards in IE’s as well: 1st in Expos, 3rd in Humorous, 3rd in PPT, and top 8 in Duo Interp, Extemp, and Dramatic Interp.
In college, Kawika competed for Patrick Henry College, earning 1st Place at the Houston Parliamentary Debate tournament in 2008; 1st Place in several NEDA tournaments; 1st Place at the Fitchburg Moot Court Tournament in 2007; 1st Place at the Moot Court Nationals for Brief Writing; 3rd Place Team at the 2007 and 2008 Moot Court Nationals. Kawika and Ethos Founder Isaiah McPeak were partners for many PHC tournaments.
In law school Kawika won Best Advocate in the Trial Advocacy Intramural tournament at Regent Law School; and 2nd Best Oralist in the Moot Court Intramural Tournament at Regent Law School.
Kawika has taught debate for several years at the ‘Olelo No’eau Debate Club in Hawaii, as well as been a guest lecturer at debate clubs in Maryland and Virginia. Additionally, Kawika was Patrick Henry College’s moot court team captain from 2006-2008 and coached PHC’s parliamentary debate team from 2007-2008. Kawika was also the assistant debate coach at Patrick Henry College.
In Fall 2011 Kawika will begin studies towards a PhD in Public Administration, which he will be studying on a full scholarship.
