Meditation on Nationals 2016
“What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
–James 4:14
“As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him…”
–Psalm 103:15-16
I used to revel in success
To glory in acknowledgement
Striving after nothing less
Than th’greatest of accomplishments
Eventually it came to pass
I self-identified with these
These ornaments that were like mist
Dissipating in the breeze
For trophies, crowns, and accolades
All fade like flowers of the field
One moment swaying in the glade
The next one, gone, no longer real
I’m not defined by what I’ve done
But rather what’s been done for me.
Purchased by His redemptive blood
His life He gave upon the tree
Regardless of my place or win
Now I strive to honor thee
With these words always in my mind
“Deny thyself” and “follow me.”
