Houston, Texas

Ethos is coming to Houston on August 6th-8th! Here’s what you need to know:

The Deets

Where is it?

St. Timothy’s Anglican Church,¬†¬†6819, Louetta Road, Spring, TX, 77379, United States

When is it?

August 6th-8th. 9-5 each day.

How much is it?

$100 per student.

What formats will you be coaching?

LD and Speech only. The camp will be focused on LD tactics. However, the speech sessions will be applicable to any debate format or non-interp speech event.

What experience level is this camp intended for?

Everyone! You’ll be training with the highest-ranked speaker and debater on speechranks. So whether you’re brand-new or a national champion, we can help you grow!

What league will you be coaching?

We’ll be coaching debate. Regardless of what league you compete in, this camp will work for you. However, since our audience is mostly from NCFCA at this camp, we’ll be using cases and examples from the NCFCA resolutions as well as having some breakout sessions to discuss the new resolutions. If enough people are interested, we’ll have breakout sessions for other resolutions.

How old do I have to be before I can attend?

We recommend attendees be above the age of thirteen. See this video for an explanation of why. However, this is more of a guideline than a rule. Email us at drew.magness@ethosdebate.com if you’re interested in an exception.

Are there any discounts or scholarships?

Partial and occasionally full scholarships are available for those in true need. Please contact Drew Magness at drew.magness@ethosdebate.com explaining your needs.

Will you be providing meals?

Nope! You’re on your own. Pack a lunch, order Chinese food, eat your flowpad, the choice is yours!

What about host housing?

If you are coming from out of town, please contact Rene Schiltz: schoolmarmee@mac.com

Your Coach:

Drew Magness

Drew Magness

Drew Magness is finishing up his senior year of high-school by competing in 18 total speech and debate tournaments in one season, participating in NCFCA, Stoa, and NSDA with 10 speech events, TP, LD, Parli, and Moot Court.

Endlessly dedicated to the activity, there’s nothing Drew would rather be doing than competing or coaching speech and debate.

Drew believes that the greatest growth that occurs in speech and debate is in the realm of character development. Learning how to own your failures, work hard, and communicate to those who have opposing ideas are vital life skills that are mastered in speech and debate competition.
